First Communion is when children receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist for the first time. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.
Children
First Communion requires two consecutive school years of Religious Education classes for formal sacramental preparation. Second grade is the earliest a student may begin this process. The student will also be required to complete their First Reconciliation on a designated date.
Parents
Parents of Baptized children preparing to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are required to attend weekly Sunday Mass. They are also required to attend the following: two mandatory parent meetings (for parents only), First Reconciliation, the Enrollment Ceremony, and the parent/student First Communion Retreat which will take place during their second year of preparation for First Communion.
