Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments of the Church. Together with Baptism and the Eucharist it constitutes the set of "sacraments of Christian initiation", that is, sacraments whose reception is necessary for the fullness of the grace received in Baptism.

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we perfect baptismal grace; it is the sacrament that gives the Holy Spirit to root us more deeply in divine filiation, to incorporate us more firmly into Christ, to make our bond with the Church more solid, to associate us even more closely with her mission and to help us bear witness to the faith.
